E-mail: mariana at ntu.edu.sg

I am an Assistant Professor in the ITOM division at Nanyang Business School (Nanyang Technological University). Before joining NTU, I was an assistant professor in Information Systems and Technology in IE Business School.

My main research interests lie in the intersection of Strategic Management and Information Systems. I mainly focus in four areas: IT strategy, embedded economy, competitive dynamics and data analytics. I have presented my work in several international conferences such as the Thirty-Fifth International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in Auckland. Other part of my work was presented in the 2014 Annual Meeting of The Academy of Management and the 2015 and 2014 Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS). My paper with the title "Competititve Brokerage: External Resource Endowment and Information Technology as Antecedents" received the "Best Student Paper Runner-up Award" in the Annual Meeting of The Academy of Management (OCIS Division). Some of my new projects will be presented in the Thirty-Seventh International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS-2016).

Some of my work is under review in top management journals (A+). I am also preparing my work to submit it to the Strategic Management Journal, Information Systems Research, the Academy of Management Journal and MIS Quarterly.

My dissertation research focuses on positioning in competition networks (Competitive Brokerage), IT-enabled capabilities and firm resources using methodologies such as econometrics and network analysis.

Before joining the PhD program in the University of Hong Kong, I graduated summa cum laude from Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM, Mexico) with a BBA degree specializing in strategic management, finance and accounting. Prior to pursuing my PhD studies, I worked in consulting, marketing and banking in different geographical regions ranging from The Americas to Asia.
